NEW TO EYP
Los Yesterdays are one of those modern‑retro soul groups that feel like they’ve been tucked away in a dusty box of 45s since 1966, only to resurface in perfect shape. They share the sweet‑soul revival space with Thee Sacred Souls, The Altons, and Thee Sinseers, yet bring their own unique vibe: dreamy, low‑rider‑ready, and soaked in analog warmth. Based in Los Angeles, they’re steeped in Chicano soul, doo‑wop, and low‑rider oldies culture. “Nobody’s Clown” stands out as one of their signature tracks — a modern classic in the low‑rider soul world.

Kelly Finnigan is a Bay Area–based soul musician whose work is steeped in vintage production techniques and heartfelt songwriting. He is one of the standout voices of the modern soul revival — a singer, songwriter, producer, and multi‑instrumentalist best known for his work with Monophonics and his solo releases on Colemine Records. His music blends deep soul, psychedelic textures, and classic analog warmth, all delivered with a raw, emotional vocal style that feels straight out of a lost 1970s tape reel.
“I Don’t Wanna Wait” is a high-energy, Northern soul-inspired jam — the kind of song that could ignite a dance floor in 1968 or 2026. Released on January 25, 2019, it kicks off Kelly Finnigan’s debut solo album, “The Tales People Tell”, setting the mood for a collection steeped in longing, devotion, and timeless soul artistry.

One of the most radiant and romantic tracks of their recent work, “Flower Moon” drifts on smooth, dreamy soul, rich with warmth, harmony, and emotional clarity. Recent coverage and the band’s own words paint a vivid picture of the song’s meaning and its place in their ongoing evolution.

NEW TO EYP
Thee Heart Tones are part of the new wave of modern sweet‑soul and low‑rider oldies revival, a scene centered in Los Angeles and championed by labels like Big Crown Records and Penrose/Colemine. Their music leans heavily into the aesthetics of classic Chicano soul: warm analog tones, tender vocals, and slow‑burn romantic storytelling.
The song “Forever & Ever” serves as the title track of their debut album and perfectly captures their nostalgic, heart‑on‑sleeve style. It was released on January 15, 2024, as Track 1 on the album “Forever & Ever” under Big Crown Records.

ANNA ASH
“Cool Cat”
@smannasmash
www.annaash.com
NEW TO EYP
Anna Ash is a Los Angeles–based singer‑songwriter celebrated for her sparkling, pure vocals, and lyrics rich with emotional nuance and lived‑in detail. Her music blends folk, jazz‑soul, and alternative singer‑songwriter styles, earning her a reputation for crafting songs that feel like quiet revelations. Critics praise her “acute emotional intelligence” and the way her voice balances tenderness with tension.
Anna Ash’s cover of “Cool Cat” beautifully shows how she transforms an existing song through her own intimate, emotionally nuanced style. With the details now clear, it’s easy to see what makes this release special. Originally written by Freddie Mercury & John Deacon, this is her fresh take on Queen’s deep cut “Cool Cat” from their 1982 album “Hot Space”. Rather than mimic the original, Ash delivers a complete reimagining.

NEW TO EYP
The Charities are a sweet‑soul band from California, signed to Colemine Records, known for blending soul, R&B, funk, and retro pop into a warm, vintage‑inspired sound. Released on December 1, 2023, this A‑side/B‑side single features “Bring Your Love” and “Angel Eyes.” Recorded at Penrose Studios and produced by Anthony Masino, “Angel Eyes” stands out as a dreamy, hypnotic piece of modern sweet soul that feels like it could have been spun on a 45 back in 1968.

THE MELLOWS
“I’d Follow You”
@the__mellows
themellowsaustin.bandcamp.com
NEW TO EYP
The Mellows are a Southern California–born band that blends rockabilly, classic R&B, doo‑wop, and vintage pop into a timeless, analogue‑first sound. They formed as a group of brothers and childhood friends and built their style around tight vocal harmonies, hook‑driven songwriting, and retro production values.
“I’d Follow You” is a modern soul/R&B single released in mid‑July 2021. It’s a warm, romantic tune built around a simple, repeating hook and a classic slow‑jam arrangement that leans on vintage soul tropes while keeping a contemporary polish.

SHARON JONES & THE DAP-KINGS
“Nobody’s Baby”
@sharonjonesandthedapkings
www.sharonjonesandthedapkings.com
Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings were an American funk and soul band rooted in a mid‑1960s to mid‑1970s retro‑soul revival. They formed out of the New York scene in the late 1990s and became the flagship act for the Daptone/Desco family of labels, known for warm, analog production and high‑energy live shows
“Nobody’s Baby” is a bold, horn‑driven soul tune by Sharon Jones & the Dap‑Kings, featured as track 3 on their 2007 album 100 Days, 100 Nights. It highlights Sharon Jones’s powerful vocals alongside the Dap‑Kings’ vintage‑inspired funk grooves. The track fuses crisp, punchy horns with a driving rhythm section and Jones’s raw, gospel‑infused lead. Sitting between uptempo funk and classic soul, it’s designed to hit hard both live and on record. The production channels the analog warmth of ’60s–’70s soul while keeping a fresh, modern edge.
Jones was diagnosed with cancer in 2013; her struggle and comeback were documented in Miss Sharon Jones! (2015). After a remission and return to touring she announced a recurrence and continued to record and perform while undergoing treatment. She died of pancreatic cancer in November 2016 at age 60. Her late‑blooming career, commitment to analog authenticity, and electrifying live shows left a lasting influence on contemporary soul and independent music production

LOADED HONEY
“Tokyo Rain”
@loadedhoney
www.loadedhoney.com
NEW TO EYP
Loaded Honey is the collaborative project of J Lloyd and Lydia Kitto, both core creative forces behind the UK modern-soul collective Jungle. While Jungle is known for its dance‑floor‑ready grooves and glossy funk, Loaded Honey is intentionally more intimate, reflective, and emotionally raw.
According to interviews and coverage, the duo built up a large catalog of songs while working on Jungle’s albums Volcano and Loving in Stereo, but many of those tracks felt too personal or atmospheric for Jungle’s high‑energy identity. Those songs became the foundation of Loaded Honey, culminating in their debut album Love Made Trees (released June 6, 2025). Released as a single ahead of the album, “Tokyo Rain” is one of the standout tracks from Love Made Trees. It premiered with a surreal, one‑shot‑style music video directed by J Lloyd and Charlie Di Placido.

JOY CROOKES
“Somebody To You”
@joycrookes
www.joycrookes.com
NEW TO EYP
Joy Crookes is a British‑Irish‑Bangladeshi singer‑songwriter from South London. She grew up surrounded by a mix of musical influences — everything from classic soul and jazz to South Asian instrumentation and 2000s UK indie. That blend shows up in her work: warm, emotional, socially aware, and deeply personal. She first gained attention through YouTube covers and early EPs, but her breakout came with her Mercury Prize–nominated debut album Skin (2021). The album established her as a storyteller with a poet’s eye — someone who writes about love, identity, family, politics, and the complexities of growing up in London.
“Somebody To You” appears as Track 10 on the Juniper (White Label Edition) release. It was teased close to release and ultimately became the sixth and final single from the album.
