Come sit at the Listening Station and take a listen to today’s new sounds to help you Expand Your Playlist!
In this edition, we are introducing you to sounds you have already discovered, and some you may not have yet. We are featured music by the following bands and artists – Kira Lise, Violet Grohl, Chloe Slater, Exit Guide, Ray Bull, Bandie, Louis Metric, Brigitte Calls Me Baby, Leah Culver, and Ecca Vandal.
Since 2015, “The Listening Station” playlists have gone by different names, but the theme and spirit have stayed the same. The name comes from the days when music stores were everywhere, offering “Listening Stations” — kiosks or cozy spots where you could preview any CD before buying it or just explore new sounds. That’s exactly what these playlists aim to do: give you a chance to sample fresh music from up-and-coming artists, discover new sounds, and ultimately expand your own playlists. Just without the oily used public headphones.
If you enjoy this and other genre playlist series we create, and you’re curious about the current indie music scene, plus you’re in a band and want to be featured, send us your music!

KIRA LISE
“Sick Of It”
@kira.lise
Kira Lise is an emerging indie-pop artist whose work blends intimate lyricism with sleek, modern production, and “Sick of It” is one of her most emotionally direct releases. The track—produced by Emmanuel Ventura‑Cruess and released on October 31, 2025—channels the spiraling frustration of anxiety into a sharp, melodic outburst, supported by crisp drums and a tense, atmospheric mix. Its official music video, directed by Megan Chan, mirrors that internal chaos with jittery visuals and close‑up emotional framing, reinforcing the song’s theme of being overwhelmed and fed up with one’s own thoughts.

VIOLET GROHL
“Bug In The Cake”
Be Sweet To Me – (2026)
@viioletgrohl
violetgrohl.com
Violet Grohl steps confidently into her own spotlight with “Bug in the Cake,” a fuzzy, 90s‑alt‑rock‑leaning standout from her debut album Be Sweet to Me, released May 29, 2026. The track—paired with a playful, surreal music video featuring adult‑film legend Nina Hartley as her grandmother—showcases Violet’s gritty, melodic edge and her flair for vivid, off‑kilter storytelling. The album itself is a full‑throttle love letter to the alternative sounds of the late ’80s and ’90s, blending influences like PJ Harvey, The Breeders, and Nirvana into a raw, modern debut that critics are already praising.

CHLOE SLATER
“Ugly”
@chloeslater333
chloeslater.co.uk
Chloe Slater’s “Ugly” is a sharp, socially charged alt‑rock track that takes aim at modern consumer culture, inspired by the Netflix documentary Buy Now: The Shopping Conspiracy. Slater describes the song as a frantic list of products and capitalist pressures meant to mirror the nonstop frenzy of advertising and material obsession, building toward a cathartic, hands‑in‑the‑air chorus. Released in May 2026 as her first new music following a run of tours and festival appearances, “Ugly” continues her blend of chaotic energy and pointed commentary, expanding on themes from earlier releases like Price on Fun and War Crimes.

Ray Bull—the Brooklyn‑based art‑pop duo of Aaron Graham and Tucker Elkins—lean further into their genre‑colliding, conceptual style with “Under Your Eyelid,” a shimmering, emotionally tense track from their 2026 album Please Stop Laughing. The song, released alongside a lyric video, highlights their “osmotic” writing process and blends folk, indie‑rock, and polished pop into something both off‑kilter and addictive. The album itself, released via AWAL, continues their playful, identity‑bending approach to art‑pop while expanding their sound into a fuller, more ambitious statement.

Together, they create a song that feels both vulnerable and effortlessly cool, the kind of indie duet that lingers long after it ends.

The album, released May 8, 2026, finds Metric expanding his sound with richer textures and more confident songwriting, positioning him as a rising voice in left‑of‑center pop.
