Sounds Inspired From the 80’s.
While exploring new music and sounds, I stumbled upon a very familiar vibe reminiscent of the 80s—pop, synth, and hair metal—but surprisingly, it wasn’t from the 1980s at all. Instead, it came from recent years, some recently as five years ago. This led me to dive deep into the genre of modern artists creating music inspired by the sound and style of the 80s. This is the second edition of this playlist theme. This isn’t Back to the Future—it’s “Forward to the Past.”
Music in this playlist features New To EYP Artists Camp Crush, Brigitte Calls Me Baby, and The Gems. As well as previously featured bands Glass Spells, Darksoft, Dirty Nancy, Diamante, Starbenders, Kat Von D and EYP Staples Artists, Fire Tiger.

They followed it with Year of the Snake in March 2026, a heavier, more metal‑leaning record thematically tied to transformation and renewal. With charting singles like “Like a Phoenix” and a growing international fanbase, The Gems have rapidly positioned themselves as one of Sweden’s standout new rock acts.
“Firebird” is a hard‑hitting, classic‑rock‑influenced track from The Gems’ 2026 album Year of the Snake, built around themes of greed, rebirth, and the consequences of wanting more than you need.

Recently Anthony Spells and Tania Cassette announce on their Instagram page that they were going on their separate ways musically, ending this chapter of the Glass Spells, but not closing the door on the band completely.

Diamante Azzura Bovelli, born in 1996 in Irvine and raised in Boston, first broke through with her 2017 single “Haunted” before releasing her debut album Coming in Hot in 2018 under Better Noise Music. She later released The Diamond Covers EP in 2022 and continued building momentum with new singles like “1987” (2023), “All for the Glory” (2024), “Silver Bullet” (2025), and “Bite of the Beast” (2026), tied to her upcoming third studio album under Sumerian Records.

KAT VON D
“H.A.T.E.”
@thekatvond
Kat Von D’s “H.A.T.E.” is one of her darkest, most confrontational tracks — a brooding, industrial‑leaning song that channels anger, betrayal, and emotional exhaustion into a slow‑burn, gothic atmosphere. Built on pulsing synths, shadowy production, and her signature dramatic vocals, the song feels like a cathartic purge, exploring the moment when love curdles into resentment and self‑protection. “H.A.T.E.” fits squarely within the moodier side of her My Side of the Mountain era, where she leans into vulnerability, shadow work, and the raw edges of heartbreak.
